Improving the education level of the potential and current workforce since 1989

United Way Profit in Education is a community-driven initiative focused on improving education outcomes and strengthening the future workforce in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Since 1989, this program has brought together businesses, educators and community organizations to help reduce the high school dropout rate and increase graduation rates across the region.

About Profit in Education

Through collaboration and support of local education efforts, United Way Profit in Education works to ensure that students in St. Joseph and Northwest Missouri are prepared for success in school, careers and life.

By connecting classrooms with community resources, we help build a stronger, more educated workforce.

United Way Reading Adventure

A literacy-focused program that helps children maintain or improve their reading skills.

Volunteers visit classrooms, summer school programs and childcare centers to read with students and encourage a lifelong love of learning.

United Way Speakers’ Bureau

This program connects students with local professionals and business leaders.

Volunteers:

  • Participate in career fairs
  • Speak in classrooms about their careers
  • Support project-based learning experiences

Breakfast with the Experts

In partnership with school counselors, this program helps students explore career paths.

Local professionals share insights into their industries, helping middle and high school students gain a clearer understanding of future opportunities.
